Please share this with other citizen scientists and future participants. Invitation by,  Nyanna Susan Tobin Words come Words go But where do they land? Perhaps becoming thin air But what if they land in the future? People’s Lexicon of Sustainable Practices Like gems adorning thin pages for generations Join with me in creating an ongoing document, introducing evolving regenerative terms, practices and actions for a livable climate.  Could such a document be a tool for stimulating world wide small conversations focusing on cooperative nature-based solutions for climate  prosperity? A Wonderful Bat Mitzvah

Image
Yesterday I attended a Bat Mitzvah for my niece.  I woke up in time, buttoned my shirt , tried to remember how to tie a tie but had to find a tie clip, got my reading glasses and fancy Yarmulke.  The preparations took me back many years.  Old Memory participates in the reconstructed NEW from religious and family perspectives.  I met many family members whom I had never met before.  The most touching thing was that two of them remembered my father as their uncle.  They were the children of my Father’s sister.  Eva, the cousin we celebrated, performed each part with confidence and joy.  The event brought together a sharing and caring spirit for one another.   There was lots of good table talk at this Bat Mitzvah celebration.  The Reconstructionist approach of this temple made the temple services available through ZOOM. The rabbi and his staff had prepared the Bat Mitzvah girl and, in addition, made the younger generation an integral part of  the celebration.  Adaptations were undertake

Tamera - an inspirational community in Portugal

Image
"If we want peace on Earth we have to find out what peace really means.  Can we imagine a world in which all people have enough food, in which rivers filled with clear water can freely meander, in which children trust adults again and where conflicts no longer lead to violence but are instead solved with intelligence and compassion? More than thirty years ago a team of pioneers around the psychoanalyst Dr. Dieter Duhm, the theologist Sabine Lichtenfels and the physicist Charly Rainer Ehrenpreis had the idea to develop as demonstrative, practical and convincing model for the future as possible. Tamera Peace Research Village in Portugal, with its international network, developed from this idea.  This book provides an insight into the current state of Tamera's work in three core areas:  permaculture and water landscape, solar technology and peace education." Terra Nova - Global Revolution and the Healing of Love

Image
Terra Nova -  Global Revolution and the Healing of Love  is an inspirational book by Dieter Duhm  that "Describes a vision for a new culture:  an Earth free of war, a society free of violence, a love free of lies and a life free of fear". In 1995, Duhm co-founded the Tamera  Peace Research Center in southwestern Portugal together with Sabine   Lichtenfells  and Rainer Ehrenpreis. In Tamera they created a working model that put years of research into action.  A visit to Tamera with with my family was a major inspiration and influence on me and my own Global Healing work. https://verlag-meiga.org/product/terra-nova-global-revolution-and-the-healing-of-love/ https://www.tamera.org/ more on Tamera and Dieter Duhm to come.......

My Journey through the Holocaust - Chapter 1

Image
I was born and raised in Germany under Hitler and rejected by the German government because I was a Jew.  On November 9, 1938 was Kristallnacht .  On this night SA (abbreviation of  Sturmabteilung, German Assault Division)  men came to our door at four in the morning and smashed the front glass entryway.  They claimed they were here for a million marks that we possessed.  My father and I walked into the living room where he had a desk, which contained a cash box.  He gave them all the money contained in the cashbox, which amounted to 100 marks.  No where did we ever have a million marks.  They marched through the whole apartment and then beat up my father in front of me because he was unable to produce this sum of money.  Since it was the beginning of winter one of the SA troopers followed me and said "get dressed warmly, you have to report to the police department".  Instead of reporting to the police department my father and I went to the railroad station (on the train wher

From Kindertransport to NYC

Image
It was shortly after Kristallnacht that news arrived from my Uncle Freddy in Palestine that he was willing to provide the necessary British pounds for me to to join the Kindertransport for Jewish children.  When my parents were informed of my acceptance I learned how to sew in to all my clothing my identification monogram: EK.  We sat on our balcony with needle and thread sewing away every day.  Then came packing the suitcase time.  The most important item was a recipe book with photographs.  This was carefully placed in the bottom of the suitcase and protected by the monogrammed clothing.  I was given instructions by my parents that it must never be shown or given to anybody else.  Little did I know that some of those recipes would become the way we earned our family lively hood.  We became one of three bakeries in New York City to make Lebkuchen, a German specialty particularly made for Christmas.  I became a baker, a delivery boy and a salesman going to "high-priced" stor

Healing and its Many Tentacles

Image
I would like to share several healing circumstances which developed during a family trip to Germany.  On this trip my two daughters and granddaughter became acquainted with places I and members of my family lived and most of us were born.  The trip included getting to know these members and in several instances we lived with them in their communities while visiting.   My father's mother and father lived in the grape rich winery of Kitzingen am Main.  In Kitzingen we got to know Mr. Schneeberger who volunteered his services to the once active Synagogue and still existing Jewish community.  He arranged for us not only to live with some members of the Jewish community there but also to assist in the upkeep of the Jewish cemetery.  Rake and shovels in hand we engaged in clearing grave sites including the memorial of my grandfather, Ignatz Klugman.   All this took place six years ago.  Yesterday I received a note that this weekend they would appreciate our help.  How would you feel bei

Tools of Healing - A List of Feelings and Needs by the New York Center for Nonviolent Communication

Image
Feelings and Needs A fundamental assumption in Nonviolent Communication is that everything we’ve ever done and everything we will ever do is motivated by universal human needs. And, feelings arise when needs are met or not met. By connecting to the feelings and needs that underlie behavior, we can experience more compassion and understanding with ourselves and with others. - The Happy Wanderers Below please find link to the NVC feelings and needs list complied by the by the New York Center for Nonviolent Communication  https://thehappywanderersclub.com/feelingsandneeds/ https://thehappywanderersclub.com/   https://charterforcompassion.org/the-new-york-center-for-nonviolent-communication-nycnvc

Creative pandemic at-home activity to do with your kids!

Image
Here is a wonderful pandemic kids activity and lesson plan submitted by Renee Gould we wanted to share as a way moving toward Global Healing.  Be well one and all! 19 A few days ago Kim posted a lesson plan that I loved! Thanks for posting, Kim! We took the idea and really made it our own. I incorporated two different plans from TeachersPayTeachers and we transformed our entire upstairs into a hospital. The kids learned so much without even realizing we were doing “school” Qinn worked on his writing skills and Zia did 3 digit addition/subtraction work beyond anything she’d ever done before. Most importantly we had fun and they were completely engaged the whole time! The pretend play aspect was particularly entertaining. Huge shout out to my mom, Susan for all her help preparing this unit. This is my favorite type of learning! Here are the links for anyone who may be looking for a fun snow day activity with their kids. It works for all ages and can really be tailored for younger o
